Britain’s pumped hydro batttery is one of the world’s largest and fastest. It was built to respond within seconds with 2,000 magawatts of electricity to balance demand for the national grid.  

Ulla-Førre power system plays a key role in Norwegian energy supply. The watershed covers 2000 sq km. Total output of the power plants is more than 2 gigawatts, or about 7 per cent of the total installed capacity of all Norwegian hydropower plants.
